Arsenal report that Takehiro Tomiyasu should be fit to fulfil his international duties with Japan over the World Cup, but he may not play before that.

Writing on the club website, Arsenal report that Takehiro Tomiyasu is still being assessed regarding his fitness for the club’s remaining matches before the World Cup.

Arsenal face Brighton at home on Wednesday, before travelling to Wolves away on Saturday, and it looks like Tomiyasu is a doubt for those games.

The good news for the player is that Arsenal believe he “should be available to feature in the (World Cup) tournament”.

Tomiyasu was the first Arsenal player officially called up for the World Cup, making Japan’s squad of 26 along with former Gunner Takuma Asano.

However, Tomiyasu then suffered an injury scare against FC Zurich on Thursday, and he missed out on Arsenal’s squad to face Chelsea at the weekend.

Fortunately, it doesn’t appear serious enough to rule him out for the rest of the month as the World Cup kicks off. Reports from Japan suggest they’re confident he’ll return to training before the event begins.

Japan will certainly hope it’s not a serious injury, as they face a tough introduction to the World Cup.

After a friendly match against Canada on November 17th, Japan kick off their World Cup campaign against Germany on November 23rd at 13:00 GMT.

They’ll then face Costa Rica and Spain on November 27th and December 1st to complete the group stage.
