Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo put in a strong performance on Saturday, making seven saves and keeping out 1.01 expected goals on target, according to the statistics.

In doing so, Okonkwo helped Crewe Alexandra to a 1-0 win over Swindon Town, and he was rated FotMob’s Player of the Match.

The 21-year-old certainly enjoyed the win, celebrating with a wave towards the home end behind the goal. The Swindon fans didn’t seem too pleased.

Interim Crewe boss Lee Bell praised Okonkwo earlier this week, suggesting he’s really added something to their team.

“Arthur is a real learner,” Bell began. “That’s the biggest compliment I can give him, he’s willing to learn.

“He’s been willing to take himself out of his comfort zone by taking possibly the toughest loan he could have done, away from his family and friends.

“He’s been a real asset and long may that continue. Because he’s a learner, it means he will only get better.”

Okonkwo has now kept three clean sheets in a row, starting with Crewe’s 1-0 FA Cup win over Leyton Orient, and followed up with two more 1-0 wins against Colchester United and Swindon Town.

As a goalkeeper, the only thing more satisfying than a clean sheet must be a 1-0 win, knowing you were the one to make the difference between victory and a draw. Okonkwo is now getting used to that feeling.

As for the cheeky wave towards the home fans on Saturday, many Arsenal supporters suggested Okonkwo might’ve been taking a leaf out of Aaron Ramsdale’s book.
