Brooke Norton-Cuffy provided his first assist on loan with Rotherham United on Wednesday, but the team imploded after his substitution.

Arsenal loanee Brooke Norton-Cuffy started his spell at Rotherham United with a run of regular starts, but he’d dropped to the bench for the last couple of matches in October.

Returning to the starting lineup against Burnley on Wednesday, Norton-Cuffy probably had a bit of a point to prove, and he did so with an assist in the third minute of the match.

Receiving the ball in space on the right, Norton-Cuffy lifted a cross into the penalty area, and Ben Wiles found himself with plenty of room to run onto the ball and head home.

Burnley equalised before the half was over, but Rotherham took the lead again in the 64th minute.

Unfortunately, their job was then made significantly more difficult as former Gunner Cohen Bramall received two yellows in seven minutes to leave them with 10 men.

Rotherham managed to hold onto their lead until Norton-Cuffy’s substitution in the 86th minute, but it didn’t last. Burnley scored twice in injury time to steal all three points from the Arsenal loanee’s side.

Despite the result, it was a positive individual performance from Norton-Cuffy.

On top of his assist, the defender made more tackles (five) than anyone else in the match, as well as winning 11/18 individual duels (61%) and making seven recoveries.

We’ll find out on Saturday whether it was enough to get the 18-year-old his starting spot back on regular basis, as Rotherham host Norwich City at 15:00 GMT.
