Kieran Tierney insists he’s fine after picking up a knock late in Arsenal’s win over FC Zurich on Thursday, having scored the Gunners’ only goal of the game.

Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney was the match-winner for Mikel Arteta’s side on Thursday night, powering home a shot from outside the box to give his team a vital lead over FC Zurich.

With PSV Eindhoven winning in the other game against FK Bodo/Glimt, Arsenal had to take all three points to win the group and avoid the play-off round next February.

All the Europa League group runners-up will play against one of the teams dropping down from the Champions League, home and away, in the play-offs in February.

Arsenal don’t have time to fit those extra games in, with Premier League fixtures against Everton and Manchester City still to be rescheduled.

Fortunately, Tierney scored the goal to get Arsenal the win, but he took a knock in the latter stages of the match. Speaking to BT Sport after the game, the defender played down the issue.

“All good,” Tierney said. “No problem, just a sore one on the ankle. Might be a bit swollen but it’s fine.”

A sub-plot for Tierney on Thursday night was the return of Oleksandr Zinchenko to full fitness.

The Ukrainian international was ready to make his comeback to competitive match action, and he would have if not for the injury to Takehiro Tomiyasu forcing Cedric on instead.

That puts the pressure on Tierney to keep his place ahead of the Arsenal summer signing, and it will certainly be interesting to see which of the two are in the starting lineup against Chelsea on Sunday.
