Arsenal ended their pre-World Cup Premier League fixtures with a win over Wolves on Saturday, having watched Manchester City lose to Brentford earlier in the day.

The performance was hardly a classic, but Mikel Arteta’s side managed to grind out another three points, and there were a few strong individual performances in the team.

The BBC’s Garth Crooks included Gabriel Magalhaes and Martin Odegaard in his Premier League Team of the Week, following the clean sheet and Odegaard’s two goals.

Of Gabriel, Crooks wrote that the centre-back helped “to get [Saliba] out of one or two rather tricky situations”, and he praised Arsenal’s defence as “the real strength behind their success”.

As for Odegaard, Crooks had plenty of praise for the Norwegian, saying:

“The more I see this player the more I like him. Cool under pressure, never over-celebrates and, dare I say it, brings a touch of elegance to an Arsenal side that is showing more class than I’m used to seeing from the Gunners.”

WhoScored also included Odegaard in their Team of the Week, giving him an 8.6 rating for his performance. The midfielder scored twice, and he completed 84% of his passes and both of his attempted dribbles in a captain’s performance for Arsenal.

Arsenal have had players in the BBC and WhoScored Teams of the Week almost every round of the season so far, which is no real surprise given they’ve won 12 of 14 matches.

There have been plenty of standout players in Arteta’s team in 2022, and we can only hope they pick up in December where they left off.
