David Ornstein isn’t aware of any contract talks between Arsenal and Reiss Nelson, with the situation difficult to call at this point.
Arsenal academy product Reiss Nelson was the star of the show as the Gunners thrashed Nottingham Forest last weekend, with the winger admitting afterwards that he’d like to extend his deal at the club.
As it stands, Nelson only has a contract until 2023, so he’ll be leaving on a free transfer this summer unless Arsenal can come to an agreement with him.
Speaking to FIVE, David Ornstein reports that he’s not aware of any contract talks between Arsenal and Nelson at this stage. He adds that it’s impossible to say what happens with the winger right now.
However, Ornstein also suggests Mikel Arteta must have seen something in Nelson to keep giving him chances into the final year of his deal – rather than selling – and he could be set to get more now.
There’s certainly an opportunity there, with Arsenal loaning Nicolas Pepe and ultimately failing to sign a replacement in the summer window.
At the same time, we’re much closer to the January transfer window than it might appear. Arsenal only have four Premier League games left in 2022, thanks to the winter World Cup.
Nelson probably needs to continue making an impression in the next few games if he wants to convince Arsenal to focus their funds elsewhere in the winter.
