Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has a personal vendetta against Mikel Arteta, according to Chelsea-focused journalist Matt Law.

Matt Law, journalist for The Telegraph, reports that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is desperate to settle a score with Mikel Arteta on Sunday.

Law claims Arteta and Aubameyang haven’t spoken since he left the club, and he wants to get one over on his former manager.

Aubameyang reportedly believes he was a scapegoat for poor results towards the end of his time at Arsenal, and he felt isolated at the club.

However, the article suggests Aubameyang has no issue with Arsenal, his former teammates, club staff, or the fans. He and his camp are just taking issue with Arteta.

This report should be taken with a pinch of salt, as Law often seems to function as a propaganda outlet for Chelsea. No one at that club wants to hear about how much Arteta and Aubameyang loved each other ahead of a derby match.

But you’d expect Aubameyang to want to perform well against his old team regardless, given how things ended.

If the report is true, Arsenal are obviously going to end up caught in the crossfire, as Aubameyang’s only way to get back at Arteta is to score against his former club on Sunday.

Looking purely at Aubameyang’s performances at Chelsea, it’s hard to predict how he’ll perform against Arsenal.

With three goals and an assist in 11 games, the striker isn’t in particularly strong form, and he was anonymous in Chelsea’s last league game at Stamford Bridge against Manchester United. But two of his three goals came in big games against AC Milan.

That being said, with Aubameyang having particular motivation for this fixture and the apparent power of narrative in football, you’d expect the 33-year-old to bag a goal on Sunday.
