Transfermarkt value players based on a number of factors, including age, performance, current club, injury susceptibility, and so on.

With the World Cup ongoing, the website has set up a feature to show their most valuable World Cup XIs for various age groups. In the u21 side, Arsenal players feature heavily.

Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and William Saliba all make the u21 side, alongside players like PSG’s Nuno Mendes, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, and Barcelona’s Pedri.

Saka even features in the most valuable XI with no age restrictions, but Martinelli drops out for Vinicius Jr of Real Madrid, and Saliba is replaced by Matthijs de Ligt of Bayern Munich.

There’s no prize for featuring in a ‘most valuable’ lineup on the Transfermarkt website, but it’s a sign of how highly rated Arsenal’s young prospects are at the moment.

With Mikel Arteta’s side at the top of the table, that’s hardly surprising, but you can certainly see why Arsenal are pushing to extend the deals of all of the aforementioned trio.

Saka and Saliba both have deals lasting until 2023, with options to extend to 2024, so they’re well into the final two years of their contracts even if the Gunners activate those options.

Martinelli is in a more stable situation, with a deal lasting until 2024 and an option to extend to 2026, but Arsenal will ideally look to tie him down for even longer.
