Arsenal are still working on a new deal for Gabriel Martinelli, with talks ongoing as one of the club’s priorities, according to a report.

Fabrizio Romano writes that contract negotiations between Arsenal and Gabriel Martinelli are ongoing and will continue, with the Brazilian in the final two years of his contract.

The situation isn’t as urgent as that makes it sound, given the Gunners have the option to extend the winger’s contract to 2026, but Arsenal are nonetheless working on a new deal.

A contract extension for Martinelli is reportedly considered one of the priorities for Arsenal, after his strong start to the season.

Martinelli scored five goals and assisted two in Arsenal’s opening 14 games of the Premier League campaign, helping his side to the top of the table.

The winger’s form was recognised by Brazil, with Tite calling the 21-year-old up to his World Cup squad, and reports on social media suggest he’s now proving to be one of the highlights in pre-tournament training with the national team.

None of that will dull Arsenal’s desire to have Martinelli extend his deal, though his current absence for the World Cup may delay things a little.

Speaking about his contract situation in a press conference ahead of Arsenal’s match against FC Zurich earlier this month, Martinelli didn’t hold back in his positive assessment of his time with the team.

“I’m very happy at Arsenal,” Martinelli said. “I said it many times. This is my club. I love to be here, I love the city, I love the club, I love everything about Arsenal.

“So I want to stay. I’m very happy. Yeah, just need to get a pen!”

UOL Esporte’s Bruno Andrade claimed in October that Arsenal want to renew Martinelli’s contract until 2028, and there is optimism on both sides of the negotiation.
