Could Arsenal be considered a genuine title contender for the Premier League in the 2022/23 season? It seems like a long time since we said anything like that, but with the way that the team is currently playing, it could very well be a possibility.

At the time of writing, the Gunners under Mikel Arteta currently lead the division after accumulating a total of 31 points from their opening 12 games, with their emphatic 5-0 victory  over Nottingham Forest being the latest result to have been achieved.

Given the way that the team has been playing, it is hardly a surprise that many are considering them as a title contender. Indeed, there are already many who are using the sports betting offering that is available at the best online casino in NZ currently where they believe the club from north London are able to go all the way.

Why many believe Arsenal could go all the way

As mentioned, it has been a while since fans ever thought the club could be within a chance of winning another Premier League title. The last one came back in the 2003/04 year in a season that saw the club go unbeaten for the duration of the campaign. However, while that was their 13th top league title, they have not been able to capture one since.

However, the club appears to be on course to rectify the long wait to bring the title back to the north of the English capital. Of the 12 games played thus far, they have managed to win 10 of those and draw one. The only defeat of the season came against Manchester United; included in the wins were victories against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

Given the victories – and the manner in which they were able to record them, there is a lot of confidence around the club, especially as their transfer business in the summer appears to have been positive following the additions of players including former Manchester City duo Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Is it still too early, though?

Of course, given that we are only a third or so through the season – which also includes the break in a couple of weeks for the 2022 FIFA World Cup – there will be some that will feel that it is still too early in the campaign to consider Arsenal as title contenders.

While it can be impossible to deny their credentials at this stage, there is still a lot of football left to play, while the Gunners also still need to play against some of their biggest rivals. For instance, they are yet to face the likes of Manchester City or Chelsea, with the Blues up next at Stamford Bridge on November 6. If they can navigate these games, there is no doubt many will find it hard not to think of Arteta’s side as a challenger.

Additionally, injuries could still play a role and this is heightened with the fact that the 2022 FIFA World Cup is being played in the middle of the season. If a key player returns from the tournament with an injury, this could cause the club a headache, and one that could have devastating consequences in their pursuit of a Premier League title.

Final Thoughts

Anybody that has watched the Premier League knows that it is a marathon and not a sprint, with so many twists and turns possible to experience throughout the 38-game campaign. It is not hard to understand why Arsenal are being spoken about as a contender at the moment, and they are showing good value as a possible winner, but with so much football still left to play, it might be wise to hold off on talk about being this year’s champions until after the festive period.
