Runar Alex Runarsson kept his strong run of form going with a clean sheet this weekend, helping Alanyaspor to three points.

Playing for Alanyaspor against Galatasaray last week, Arsenal loanee Runar Alex Runarsson probably had his best game of the loan spell so far.

The goalkeeper made 10 saves, including from a tricky near-post drive from Dries Mertens and an injury-time one-on-one from Emin Bayram. The stats suggested the goalkeeper had faced 3.35 xGOT, but only conceded twice, a commendable effort.

Yet goalkeepers always ideally want to keep a clean sheet, and that was something Runarsson was still yet to do.

Starting against Gaziantep FK on Saturday, Runarsson was quickly called into action with a near-post save in the 6th minute. But he didn’t have to make too many more stops for next hour or so, with Gazientep’s best chance rebounding off the post.

In the 78th minute, Runarsson kept out a stinging shot from distance, but his best save came two minutes later, as he got down well to keep out a well-struck free-kick heading for the corner.

Gazientep had one more chance in the 86th minute, but this time the shot was straight down Runarsson’s throat and he collected it easily.

The Arsenal loanee thus secured the first clean sheet of his loan, and his confidence will be building after last week’s performance against Galatasaray as well.
