Former Arsenal executive Peter Silverstone looks set to become Newcastle United’s chief commercial officer as the Magpies try to compete with the world’s top clubs off the pitch as well as on it.

With Newcastle United’s take-over, it was always just a matter of time before they started to make moves to become a serious football club and with a number of off-field appointments, they certainly seem to be making some savvy calls.

Peter Silverstone will arrive at Newcastle with decades of experience, if the Mail are correct with their exclusive that he is on his way to St. James’.

He spent seven years at Arsenal alone, with four of those spent in a similar chief commercial role as he is expected to take up at Newcastle.

In the role at Arsenal, he helped agree the deal for Amazon’s All or Nothing series, as well as the switch to Adidas, the sleeve deal with Rwanda and a number of other initiatives that increased revenue, including selling out the expanded Club Level.

During his time in north London, Silverstone also represented the club on various Premier League, FA and ECA Committees and Task Forces across Men’s and Women’s football.

Silverstone left Arsenal in at the start of this year and then took up a role with Daily Cannon partners, OneFootball, in May, where he said he was “immediately impressed by the energy and diverse industry talent that is joining, and will join, the already established team at OneFootball.

“I’m looking forward to being part of this new team so I can lend my skills and experience to create new revenue opportunities, deepen and broaden partnerships, and deliver mutually beneficial relationships to support OneFootball’s comprehensive fan ecosystem.”

Less than six months on, it seems an even more impressive energy called to him.
