After a strong pre-season, Arsenal loanee Nikolaj Moller hasn’t had much of a chance to show what he can do in competitive matches.

The 20-year-old missed the first few games of the season through injury, and after a couple of brief substitute appearances, he was back on the sidelines with another injury setback.

The striker returned to the matchday squad earlier this month, making the bench against Willem II before coming on for his first appearance in over a month against AZ Alkmaar u21s last Friday. But that still only brought him to 74 minutes overall.

Moller got a slightly longer opportunity on Tuesday, playing the full second half against GVVV in the Dutch cup. The Arsenal man entered the fray with his team 1-0 down and in need of a comeback to remain in the competition.

Within two minutes of Moller’s introduction, Den Bosch were on terms, with Teun van Grunsven bagging an equaliser. Then it was Moller’s turn to take centre stage.

With 20 minutes left on the clock, Moller made a nice turn away from a defender to get himself in on goal. He then lifted the ball over the goalkeeper for 2-1.

Den Bosch made the most of their momentum to add another goal in the 77th minute, winning the tie and progressing to the next round.

Fotboll Direkt describe Moller as the “hero of the match” after saving his team from potential elimination. Yet to make a start for Den Bosch this season, the striker now has one goal from 119 minutes.

Den Bosch next face MVV in the Eerste Divisie on Saturday, 22nd October at 19:00 BST.
