Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe helped OGC Nice to a win in their Europa Conference League match against Partizan on Thursday, scoring the opening goal of the contest.

Picking up the ball in midfield in the 29th minute, Pepe played it out to the left wing. The resulting cross was cut out by a defender, but it fell kindly to Pepe, who had continued his run into the box.

Opting to take the shot on first time with his right foot, Pepe finished the chance and gave his team the lead. The match ended up finishing 2-1 to Nice.

As a result of the victory, Nice sit top of their group after five games, though they could still drop out of the knockout stage qualification places on the final day depending on the last few results.

But a win for Nice away to FC Koln in their final game would guarantee top spot in the group, so they’ve put the situation in their own hands.

Thursday’s goal was Pepe’s fifth of the season in all competitions, on top of winning one penalty converted by a teammate, in 14 games so far.

Though that doesn’t sound like a hugely impressive record, it’s worth noting that four goals and the penalty came in Pepe’s last six matches. He seems to be hitting form after a slow start, so it’s just a matter of keeping that going now.
