Nuno Tavares made an instant impact on his loan with Marseille, scoring three goals in his first four games.

Since then, he has won Player of the Month for September, been suspended for picking up three yellow cards in his first 10 games, and been tipped to become one of the best players in his position in the world.

Now, Tavares has been speaking to the media about how much he is enjoying his time in France.

“I feel great in my new team,” Tavares told Quotidien, as relayed by Le10Sport. “I gained confidence from my first days thanks to the welcome of my teammates and the support of the fans. It was essential for me.

“Whether on or off the pitch, I discovered an incredible and spectacular city. Playing in a stadium like the Vélodrome is unique. There is an extraordinary atmosphere with impressive supporters.”

Since his impressive start, Tavares has come in for some criticism in the press.

Mistakes have been creeping back into his game with La Provence writing that the defender was no longer the, ‘intrepid full-back that sent shivers in the backs of opposing defences’, and that ‘for some time now, the Portuguese has been fumbling his football and the ball’.

Tavares has previously spoken about how he wanted an option for Marseille to purchase him in his loan agreement that runs until the end of the season. Arsenal refused.
