Arsenal’s Mark Gonnella will step down from his role as Director of Media Communications and Community Affairs at the end of the season.

In a small piece in Mike Keegan’s Daily Mail section, ‘Sports Agenda’ it is speculated that Gonnella’s departure has something to do with the ill-fated European Super League.

It is claimed that the media people at all six English clubs involved were left ‘aghast when they were made aware of the aborted splits and the accompanying pathetic media strategy.’

Daily Cannon understands that the decision to leave the club is indeed Gonnellas, however it is an amicable departure with no issue between the parties, unlike what is hinted at in the Daily Mail’s piece.

The departure of arsenal’s long-serving Mark Gonnella means that by the end of the season just one of the Big Six’s PR chiefs in post at the time of o the Super League breakaway debacle will remain in post. It is understood that communication bosses were aghast when they were made aware of the aborted split s and the accompanying pathetic media strategy. Hardly surprising, then, that the top people at Chelsea, both Manchester clubs Tottenham and now arsenal have departed. Liverpool’s Susan Black is the last person standing.

Gonnella arrived at Arsenal after almost a decade working for Barclaycard as their Corporate Affairs Director.

During his time at Arsenal, Gonnella has also served as a member of Kick It Out’s Professional Game Advisory Body.
