Real Oviedo confirmed major changes at the weekend, with sporting director Vicente Blanco, manager Jon Perez Bolo, and his coaching staff all leaving the club. Oviedo have appointed Jaime Alvarez and Paco Fernandez on an interim basis.

Marcelo Flores is currently on loan with Oviedo, and he sent a message to Bolo following the news of the coach’s departure.

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to start my career,” Flores wrote on Instagram. “See you soon, @jonbolo21.”

As for what this means for Flores’ loan spell, the jury is still out on that one.

The 19-year-old made seven appearances in Real Oviedo’s first 11 games of the league season, but he only started three of them. In total, he played 293 minutes under Bolo.

A new manager could give Flores a fresh chance to impress and break into the side, but on the other hand, the people who brought him to the club are now gone.

Flores will now be relying entirely on impressing in training and in whatever matchday opportunities he gets.

With Oviedo sitting 19th out of 22 teams in Spain’s Segunda Division, there’s certainly potential for the Mexican international to make an impact and break into the side on a permanent basis. But he’ll be starting from scratch now.
