Kevin De Bruyne’s has matched Dennis Bergkamp’s Premier League assist total with his two assists in City’s mauling of Manchester United on Sunday.
While Erling Haaland and Phil Foden rightly grabbed all the headlines with their hattricks, Kevin De Bruyne also claimed two assists as United’s ‘noisy neighbours’ smashed six past them at the Etihad on Sunday.
Those were De Bruyne’s 93rd and 94th assists in the Premier League, drawing him level with Dennis Bergkamp, who ended his career with 94 assists himself.
94 meant that Bergkamp was in 5th place on the all-time assists table, and he hasn’t been bumped to 6th just yet. With De Bruyne only 31, however, it’s just a matter of time.
In this case, probably just a week or two given how the Belgian is playing this season.
De Bruyne already leads the 22/23 Premier League assist table with eight, twice as many as the next players on the list, Bernardo Silva and Bukayo Saka, who both have four.
