Diogo Jota and Jurgen Klopp have continued to whine to the media about the decisions that went against them at the weekend, after their defeat to Arsenal.

After their complaints on Sunday, Liverpool’s representatives were back in front of the media today to talk more about how they were hard done by in the match against Arsenal.

Diogo Jota and Jurgen Klopp used their pre-Rangers press conference to continue to suggest the referees were to blame for their defeat.

“Obviously we can do always more than what we do,” Jota began. “But now, yeah, when you look back, you have a feeling like everything went a bit against us.”

“The first goal, how I heard now, of Arsenal was pretty likely offside,” Klopp said. “We just cannot find out because the camera was not there, or the angle, whatever.

“But when I saw the picture I thought it’s obvious that Saka came back from an offside position.

“And then there happens a penalty which was not a penalty, and from that moment on we had to chase the game and Arsenal could counter-attack, and they had obviously then better situations.”

This last section is the most objectionable, as it seems to completely rewrite the story of the game.

According to Klopp, Arsenal had better situations to score from the award of the penalty onwards, but that’s just completely untrue.

When you look at the shots, the attacking threat, or the expected goals, Arsenal were at their best before the penalty.

In fact, Arsenal didn’t have a single shot after the penalty. So whilst the goal did change the game, it’s not an excuse for the fact Arsenal had by far the better opportunities across the whole match.

Though it rang fairly hollow after his complaints about the referees, Klopp did go on to praise Arsenal a little.

“We played away against the team in form in the league, first in the table,” Klopp added. “Great team. Top, really good players, all good. But we lost it in the way we lost it.”

Fortunately for Arsenal fans, we don’t have to dwell on what Klopp thinks should have happened.

Mikel Arteta’s team took the three points, and the two teams won’t meet again for another six months (barring a cup draw). It’s time to move on.
