Real Betis are reportedly concerned that Arsenal will return for Guido Rodriguez with the midfielder excelling this season and the Gunners already having an offer rejected.

Arsenal were first linked with Guido Rodriguez in 2021 when they were confirmed as one of three clubs interested in signing him.

A month later, it was claimed that Rodriguez had an €80m release clause, a fee Arsenal were never going to pay for a player who was already 26 at that point.

An offer was submitted, however, although details about it are scarce. What we do know is that it was declined as Real Betis tried to hold on to the midfielder.

Real Betis are now said to be concerned that Arsenal could return as Rodriguez heads towards the final year of a contract that expires in 2024.

Now 28, it seems unlikely Arsenal would spend large amounts of money sign him – as much as they are said to be looking for a midfielder.

Betis reportedly want ‘at least €30m’ (£26.3m) for the player who is worth around £22.5m, the highest amount he has ever been worth and the same as Granit Xhaka is currently valued at, despite being 18 months older.

That rise has come over the past year in which Rodriguez has excelled.

Still, his age seems like it could cause a problem for Arsenal who are actively looking for young players. Turning 29 next April, only four players at the club would be older than him (Cedric, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, and Thomas Partey).

Rodriguez is also an Argentine international with 25 caps.
