Gabriel Jesus says the Arsenal fans are different from Manchester City supporters, and he was impressed by the way they welcomed him.

Gabriel Jesus has made an electric start at Arsenal, scoring or assisting nine goals in 10 games, with the team winning nine of those 10 matches.

Perhaps one factor of Jesus’ fast start is the support and love he felt from the Arsenal fans in the early days of his spell at the club, inspiring him to return that affection on the pitch.

The supporters were crying out for an exciting striker to push the team forward, and they were more than happy to welcome the Brazilian to north London, as Jesus himself attests.

“Yeah, I feel [it],” Jesus said. “In the first days when I signed here and I went to a Brazilian restaurant here, and I was waiting for my car outside and a lot of Arsenal fans came to say ‘welcome’.

“It’s different from City, of course. City had a lot of impact [over] the last 10/15 years. And then Arsenal before had a lot. It’s different.

“I feel that welcome, the way they come to talk with me and say ‘welcome, we are with you, supporting you to the end’.

“I was happy as well with the fans at City, but it’s different [here].”

Jesus is now focusing on his new team, and he told BT Sport that he’s hoping to score 30 goals this season.

That’s a high target, particularly considering the way the striker has split his contributions between goals and assists so far. Of Jesus’ nine goal contributions, five were goals and four were assists.

Perhaps the 25-year-old would need to be a little more selfish to hit 30 goals. But it’s a long season and he could still have another 40 or so games to play. Why not dream big?
