Cesc Fabregas has been speaking about Martin Odegaard and admits that the Norwegian reminds him of being handed the Arsenal captaincy when he was just 21.

Cesc Fabregas is now 35 and playing for Como in Italy’s Serie B.

The former Arsenal captain is also branching out to take on more commentary roles and before the north London derby, he was tasked with giving his insight into the match and players who would be involved.

He opted to speak about Arsenal’s captain, Martin Odegaard, comparing the midfielder getting the armband at such a young age with his own experience.

“I hope he will be crucial in a good way, because I like his style,” Fabregas said of Odegaard on BT Sport.

“I like his intelligence and how he moves to find these little pockets to make the difference.

“He’s very tricky and a good eye for the ball. It’s a lot of responsibility. He was 15 when he made his debut for Norway, he’s the captain of Norway, now a very young captain for Arsenal.

“Not an easy task for him and he’s responding very well.

“It reminds me a little bit of me when I took the armband at 21. It’s not easy. It’s a big, big club. Everyone wants results and today we expect a big performance from him and from the old team.”

Odegaard was the youngest ever player to represent his country at senior level, aged just 15 years and 253 days.

He was also the youngest ever player to play in the Norwegian top flight and the youngest to ever feature for Real Madrid when he came on as a sub aged just 16 years and 157 days old.

Given those ages, he’s practically an old man now he’s 23!

He still has some way to go to match Fabregas’s stats, however.

Odegaard has made 68 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 12 and assisting seven.

Fabregas finished his time at Arsenal with 304 appearances, 57 goals and 95 assists.
