Leeds United were hoping to sign Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window after they were unable to get a move over the line in the summer, but it seems as if the player could be changing his mind as he eyes a move elsewhere.

For reasons I won’t bore you with, Leeds United tried to sign Cody Gakpo, the deal didn’t go ahead in the summer, but discussions between the clubs continued. The idea was that he would move to Leeds in January.

The clubs came close to agreeing a deal recently, although the player had previously shown reluctance about the move.

Arsenal were heavily linked with Gakpo as well, but it seemed likely he would be heading to Leeds. Arsenal passed on signing him while a host of other clubs were also said to be interested, including Manchester United.

Now, however, after a great start to the season, Gakpo is reportedly having even more doubts about signing for Leeds and does not want to make the switch.

Could he, perhaps, be eyeing up a bigger club?

David Ornstein in the Athletic reports that Real Madrid have now been mentioned before reminding us that Arsenal and United were also linked.

The PSV Eindhoven 23-year-old winger has netted 13 goals, with 10 assists in just 16 games. Impressive stats by anybody’s measure unless you’re Erling Haaland.

Arsenal have primarily been linked with a midfielder ahead of the January window but they have also been linked with a few forward options, as well.
