Ben White didn’t hesitate to accept the challenge when Mikel Arteta approached him in the summer over a shift out to right-back, according to a report.
After playing almost exclusively at centre-back in his first season at Arsenal, Ben White was approached by Mikel Arteta over the summer with a position change in mind.
The Evening Standard report that when Arteta brought up the subject of a switch to right-back, White accepted the challenge without hesitation and backed himself to be successful there.
Arsenal now believe the player’s confidence at right-back is growing on an almost weekly basis, and there’s a sense that England might now take notice as well.
In many ways, the switch has been to White’s advantage. He’s ensured he’s held onto a starting position for Arsenal despite the return of William Saliba, and he’s earning regular praise in the media for his performances.
But Arsenal are clearly the primary beneficiaries, with White’s performances as part of a new-look back four propelling them to the top of the Premier League table.
More than that, the fact that White was willing to get on board with the new plan and work hard to make it a success says a lot about the player and person Arsenal have on their hands.
That attitude should serve him well for a long future with the Gunners under Arteta.
