Arthur Okonkwo saved a penalty for Crewe Alexandra this weekend, but he had to settle for a draw after losing his clean sheet in the second half.

Arsenal loanee Arthur Okonkwo has had no trouble earning minutes on his spell at Crewe Alexandra so far, playing the full 90 of all 14 of their League Two fixtures this season.

The goalkeeper even started in Crewe’s League Cup game against Grimsby, so he’s only missed out on starting in the EFL Trophy so far.

On Saturday, Okonkwo got another start against Doncaster Rovers, and he played a particularly impressive first half.

First, he made a strong reaction save from Harrison Biggins, then he kept out a penalty in the 45th minute to maintain his side’s 1-0 advantage.

Unfortunately, he conceded in the second half after coming out and failing to prevent a threaded finish from George Miller. But the penalty save at least earned his side a point, as the match finished 1-1.

FotMob stats suggest Okonkwo faced 1.85 xGOT through the match, so to only concede one goal was a net positive for his side.

Overall, Okonkwo has conceded 16 goals and kept five clean sheets in his 14 league games, which is in line with the average number of goals conceded per team across the division.

There are many factors that go into the number of goals you concede, other than just your goalkeeper.  But it’s one of the stats goalkeepers are inevitably judged on, so it’s good to avoid falling below the average.

As long as Okonkwo keeps playing, every game is going to be another learning experience. That’s what loans are for.
