Two Arsenal players are at risk of a domestic suspension due to an accumulation of yellow cards and it speaks to Granit Xhaka’s reformation that he is not one of them.

Without doubt, in seasons gone by, there would have been no doubt what player would have been up for suspension first because of yellow cards picked up – Granit Xhaka.

It didn’t matter if he did his best to avoid getting booked, his reputation went before him.

This season, however, he is a man transformed, although he still has the third-highest card count in the squad.

That statement is misleading, however, as he only has two yellows and he only had to commit five fouls to get them.

Last season, Xhaka ended up with 10 yellows from just 35 fouls.

When he first arrived, he needed on average 7.4 fouls to get a card.

Anyway, two players in the squad have four yellow cards and are walking the suspension tightrope.

Should William Saliba or Gabriel Jesus pick up a yellow against Southampton at the weekend, then they would miss the game against Nottingham Forest.

Gabriel Jesus is actually being booked at a much, much higher rate with Arsenal than he ever was with Manchester City.

The number of cards needed for a suspension rises to 10 for the second half of the season, after the 19th Premier League game.

After the 32nd fixture, it’s a free-for-all.
