Chris Sutton doesn’t have the best reputation amongst Arsenal fans but his latest prediction, mad as it might seem will have quite a few smiling at the very least.

Arsenal have not done well against Liverpool of late.

Of the last 10 meetings between the sides, Arsenal have won three, which is more than it feels like, drawn one, and lost six.

In those matches Arsenal have scored nine and conceded 25.

It has not been fun playing Jurgen Klopp’s men over recent seasons, with Arsenal’s last win coming via penalties in the Carabao Cup.

For a win in 90, you have to go back to the delayed end of the 19/20 season when Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-1 at the Emirates in the Premier League thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Reiss Nelson.

Given that Arsenal haven’t put four past Liverpool in the League since 2015, it’s somewhat surprising to read Chris Sutton predicting that the Gunners will do exactly that on Sunday.

“The way Arsenal went at Tottenham last weekend was impressive, and bodes well for this game too,” Sutton wrote on the BBC. “While the Gunners are playing well and are full of confidence, things still aren’t right at Liverpool as far as I can see.

“Jurgen Klopp’s side were very comfortable against Rangers in the Champions League on Tuesday but they weren’t tested defensively. Here, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus won’t give them a minute’s peace.

“I think Liverpool will score, even though they have not quite clicked yet this season. But Arsenal’s attacking talent are going to cause them a lot of problems at the other end.”

He then finishes by predicting a 4-1 scoreline.

Arsenal are currently 11 points ahead of Liverpool, although Arsenal have played a game more.

Still, with fewer than 10 games played to date, that gap speaks both to how good Arsenal have been and how much Liverpool have underperformed.

Still, if you can find an Arsenal fan as confident as Sutton, I’d advise you also do the lottery.
