Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made a quick return to the Premier League to sign for Chelsea after Arsenal released him for free and he believes he has ‘unfinished business in the Premier League’.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed a deadline day move to Chelsea and the former Arsenal captain says he’s both ‘honoured’ to play for the Blues, despite his Arsenal tattoo, and that he has ‘unfinished business’.
Quite what that business is, he did not clarify.
“I’m really happy,” Aubameyang told the official Chelsea website.
“It’s an honour to be part of this team and I can’t wait to start.
“I have some unfinished business with the Premier League so it’s good to be back and really exciting.”
Speaking about signing one of the few strikers he’s been able to get a tune out of over his career, Thomas Tuchel added, “Auba is not afraid of the past and what a number means,” referencing the alleged curse that haunts the Chelsea number 9 shirt, not dissimilar to the one at Arsenal until Gabriel Jesus took the shirt.
“He is ready to fight to create his own history. Taking the number nine means he is brave enough.
“Auba, from my point of view, has always been happy to fight for something and to accept the challenge, so the more challenges he has the better it is,” Tuchel added, seemingly unaware of how Auba’s time at both Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund ended.
Barcelona cash in after Arsenal’s ‘gift’
Barcelona played an absolute blinder with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
First, they got Arsenal to waive any transfer fee, calling Auba’s arrival in Spain a ‘gift fallen from the sky’.
Secondly, they got Aubameyang to take a massive paycut on the promise they’d give him even more next (this) season.
Then, they got to benefit from the host of goals Aubameyang tends to score when he arrives at a club. Auba scored 13 goals, with one assist, in 24 games.
Now, they get a nice juicy transfer fee for a player who turned 33 this summer, without having to pay him the money they promised they’d pay him.

Expect Aubameyang to score quite a few goals from the off with Chelsea and the majority of the UK media to run piece after piece asking if Mikel Arteta made a mistake.
He didn’t.
As I said, Aubameyang always scores a lot of goals when he joins a new club. He did it at Arsenal, too, scoring 11 in his first 18 for the Gunners.
It’s the latter stages of his career at a club that is the issue.
Chelsea are believed to have signed Aubameyang on a two-year deal with an option for a third. They paid a fee said to be around £14m.
Aubameyang was recently the victim of a violent robbery at his home when gunmen, also armed with iron bars, broke into his home and beat him before robbing him and his family.
He suffered a minor broken jaw that will keep him out of action for around three weeks.
