Arsenal could be missing as many as six players for their trip to Manchester United this weekend, according to the latest comments from Mikel Arteta.

Following Arsenal’s win over Aston Villa, the team picked up a couple of minor issues, with Aaron Ramsdale feeling something during the game and Martin Odegaard getting a bad kick.

Mikel Arteta suggests both are still being monitored to see if they can feature against Manchester United.

“Those two are being assessed,” Arteta said. “We will see more tomorrow. Hopefully, they will be able to train with the team.”

Arteta wasn’t optimistic about Oleksandr Zinchenko, who has missed the last couple of games and hasn’t yet returned to full squad training.

When asked if Zinchenko could miss the United game as well, Arteta responded: “After missing two games and not being ready to train with the team, unfortunately, that is the situation that we have.”

As for the other players who were already out injured before the Villa game, Reiss Nelson remains absent, whilst Arteta gave an update on his two senior midfield absentees as well.

“With Mo (Elneny) probably it’s a little bit easier and we are talking months,” Arteta said. “With Thomas (Partey), hopefully, we are talking weeks or even shorter than that I hope.”

Arsenal have replacements ready in many of the relevant positions, whether that’s Kieran Tierney at left-back, Albert Sambi Lokonga in midfield, Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira as backup right-wing options (or an alternative to Odegaard in midfield in Vieira’s case).

The Gunners also have summer signing Matt Turner to go in goal if necessary. But the issue with Turner, Marquinhos, and Vieira is that they’re all yet to make their first-team debuts for Arsenal.

Giving any of them their debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford would be a tough ask, but it seems possible that might end up happening.

There are still a couple of days before the game, so a lot will depend on the outcomes of those assessments in training.
