The Arsenal defeated Tottenham 4-0 at the Emirates in front of a record Barclays Women Super League crowd of 53,737 fans, keeping them top of the league, with a 100% record, ahead of Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Jonas Eidevall decided to start Caitlin Foord up front instead of Stina Blackstenius, pairing her with Vivianne Miedema, who played at lot higher as a second striker rather than her preferred number 10 role.

At full back, Laura Wienroither was selected ahead of Noëlle Maritz and on the left side Steph Catley was selected with Katie McCabe moved up to the left winger spot.

The starting XI was Zinsberger; Wienroither, Williamson, Rafaelle, Catley; Wälti, Little; Mead, Miedema, Foord, McCabe. That 4-4-2 system matched up very well against Spurs 3-5-2.

Credit to the staff for preparing a great gameplan, and to the players for executing it very well.

Kim Little was immense throughout the game in the deep lying playmaker role. She did everything to hold the ball, orientate the play, create chances, like on the opener, and also did a great defensive job alongside Lia Wälti.

Rafaelle at centre-back was excellent, winning duels, using her passing range and also being a threat from set-pieces.

Caitlin Foord was also sensational, and carried on her excellent form from the previous seasons.

It was a record attendance for the Barclays WSL and the atmosphere was good. There was also nowhere near the level of abuse and moaning you get at a men’s game.

There was a little bit of “stand up if you hate Tottenham!”, but overall a very well behaved crowd.

Hopefully, the crowds will come again for the other Arsenal Women’s games that will be played at the Emirates Stadium this season.

Arsenal stay top of the Llague thanks to a better goal difference than Manchester United and Aston Villa.

They are three points clear of Chelsea, who defeated Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday. The Citizens now finds themselves in the relegation zone, alongside Reading and Leicester, with all three teams on nil point after two games.

Arsenal’s next league game will be Reading away on 16 October, after the international break.

Coming this week is the Champions League qualifying round 2 second leg away to Ajax.

There is all to play for after the 2-2 draw at Meadow Park last week. The game will be played on Wednesday at 6pm at the De Toekomst stadium.
