Arsenal could return for Palmeiras midfielder Danilo in January, with the 21-year-old expected to be more available in that window.

The Evening Standard report that Arsenal had lodged an enquiry with Palmeiras earlier this week over a possible deal for Danilo, but the Brazilian club immediately knocked that approach back.

Palmeiras want to keep Danilo around for the rest of their Copa Libertadores campaign, which concludes in late October – should they make it to the final.

By January, Palmeiras continental campaign will be over, and they’re reportedly more open to a transfer at that stage.

Arsenal aren’t the only interested club, with formal offers expected from around Europe. But it seems this is one to keep an eye on when the transfer window reopens.

The Evening Standard also highlight that Arsenal will have the option to pursue deals for Douglas Luiz or Youri Tielemans as well, as both of them are running down their contracts.

If neither of them extend their contracts, they could even be available for free next summer.

It’s certainly unfortunate that a number of Arsenal’s summer targets are expected to be available in 2023, but their clubs were stubborn in their summer valuations – or in their total refusal to sell.

Arsenal may well end up landing their summer targets in the end, but it remains to be seen whether they’ll suffer from their failure to add to the squad in the meantime.
