David Moyes is keen on signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan, but a permanent deal for a relatively low fee is more likely.

According to ExWHUemployee of The West Ham Way, David Moyes is very keen on signing Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles before the end of the transfer window.

Ideally, West Ham and Moyes want a loan deal, but Arsenal are obviously unlikely to accept that considering Maitland-Niles only has a year left on his contract.

As a result, a permanent move is more likely at this stage, which is still tempting to the Hammers.

The price tag could be below £10m, which is presumably a major part of the appeal for West Ham.

Football.London wrote last week that Arsenal are willing to listen to offers for Maitland-Niles.

The midfielder/right-back doesn’t appear to have much of a future in North London. He played some part in pre-season, but not a significant amount, and he was left out of Arsenal’s opening games of the league campaign.

Maitland-Niles had a disappointing loan to AS Roma last season, even if it did end with the Europa Conference League trophy. He only made 10 starts under Jose Mourinho, out of 27 matches.

Yet this is a 24-year-old who was in the England squad as recently as 2020, who has plenty of top-level experience, and only a year left on his Arsenal deal.

You’d expect a transfer before the end of the window, and it appears West Ham will be among his suitors.
