Emile Smith Rowe is set to miss Arsenal’s opening game of the season against Crystal Palace, but he’s returning to full training soon.
BT report that Emile Smith Rowe is currently absent with a groin issue, and he won’t be involved for Arsenal’s trip to face Crystal Palace on Friday.
“I am going to be training this week, so hopefully I can be back with the team (soon),” Smith Rowe told the Evening Standard.
“It’s just my groin at the moment, I am getting a bit of pain in there. It’s getting better and I should be back soon.”
It’s a shame for Arsenal to be missing Smith Rowe for the opening game of the campaign, but it’s nothing pre-season hasn’t prepared them for.
The midfielder/wide-forward hasn’t been available throughout the pre-season preparations, which has given Gabriel Martinelli a free run of games out wide.
Martinelli has impressed in those appearances, providing the most assists in pre-season whilst building up a strong on-field relationship with summer signing Gabriel Jesus.
Ideally, Arsenal would also have Smith Rowe available as an alternative option on matchdays. Martinelli certainly won’t be able to play every game this season, with the return of Europa League football taking up many midweeks.
But Mikel Arteta should have enough options to get him through this Friday, after which Smith Rowe is set to be back involved again.
