Arsenal youngster George Lewis spent time on trial with Sandefjord this month, but they’ve decided against signing him.

Last week, Norwegian outlet Sandefjords Blad reported that Arsenal’s 22-year-old winger George Lewis had been training with Sandefjord Fotball, seemingly ahead of a possible move to the club.

But iTromso now claim Lewis won’t be a Sandefjord player, as they’ve decided not to sign him after that trial period.

Unsurprisingly, it’s not publicly known exactly why Sandefjord opted against the signing. But it leaves Lewis’ future up in the air with days remaining in the transfer window.

Having turned 22 in June, Lewis is now too old for u21 football, or to be included in the u21 list for Arsenal’s senior squad. Arsenal could field him as an overage player in their u21 side, but ideally, he’ll find a new club before the summer deadline.

Back in early June, it became clear Lewis had signed a contract extension with Arsenal.

The winger’s previous deal expired this summer, so the fact he wasn’t on the club’s list of released players was confirmation of an extension.

Reports at the time suggested Arsenal had an option for an additional year in Lewis’ old contract, so the assumption was that they’d activated the option. Lewis later confirmed this.

Lewis made just two Premier League 2 appearances this season. Arsenal were hoping to loan him out last August, but he suffered a serious injury that scuppered those plans.

The winger featured in 2022 pre-season right the way up until the final pre-season game of the u21s’ preparations, but he hasn’t made any competitive appearances this campaign.

A transfer is seemingly top of Lewis’ list of priorities. It just won’t be to Sandefjord.
