A few summers back, the reporting around Houssem Aouar to Arsenal was relentless.

Now, the 24-year-old is on the verge of signing for newly-promoted Nottingham Forest as he enters the final year of his deal at Lyon.

No fee has yet been mentioned for the player. Arsenal were supposedly starting bidding at €40m back when they were first linked, but the fee this time is unlikely to be that large.

Aouar could have ended up at Arsenal had things gone differently.

His brother was reported to be the reason the deal fell through as he couldn’t keep his mouth shut and was allegedly making all sorts of promises to different people. In the end, Arsenal looked elsewhere.

A move to Real Betis this summer for the midfielder also fell through.

Aoaur is currently valued at around £22.5m.

Forest have already splashed more than £100m this summer on 14 players.
