After a couple of Championship substitute appearances and a Man of the Match award on his League Cup start for Blackpool, Charlie Patino got his first league start in senior football on Tuesday.

But just 15 minutes into the game, Patino turned his ankle in an unfortunate clash with a QPR man.

At first, it looked as though the midfielder would be able to run the problem off. He played the rest of the half to a high standard, catching the eyes of many supporters.

Unfortunately, he then had to be withdrawn at half-time. After the game, Blackpool boss Michael Appleton told the media the injury doesn’t look great.

“The injury to Charlie was a big blow because he was having a big influence on the game, he was playing his part,” Appleton said. “It’s not great if I’m being honest.

“Obviously we’ll know the full extent over the next 72 hours I’d imagine…

“Charlie, his ankle is quite badly swollen and it was badly swollen at half-time, so it’s something we’ve got to control and get the swelling down. Once we’re in a position where the swelling is under control we can go and get it scanned.”

Patino had helped Blackpool into a 1-0 lead in the first half, and they managed to hold onto their advantage for the three points, so that was the one positive on the night.

But it’s not the start the Arsenal loanee would have wanted, and we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed that the injury isn’t serious.
