Arsenal have submitted a bid for Palmeiras midfielder Danilo, though it’s unlikely to be an easy deal to do before the summer deadline.

Goal report that Arsenal submitted an initial offer of £20m to sign Danilo from Palmeiras on Tuesday, but the Brazilian club are set to reject it. As it stands, Palmeiras don’t intend to negotiate for the player with a €100m (£85.9m) release clause.

Goal add that AC Milan are also interested in Danilo, though they’re yet to submit a bid.

The Evening Standard reiterate that Palmeiras have no plans to sell Danilo before the transfer window shuts on Thursday. The club are competing to retain the Copa Libertadores, so they’re reluctant to sell now.

The Copa Libertadores runs on a calendar-year format, so it’s currently at the semi-final stage. Even if Palmeiras get knocked out in their next match, it won’t be until after the summer transfer window has closed.

Sam Dean reports that it’s “extremely unlikely” Danilo leaves Palmeiras this summer. Though he reports that Arsenal have a longstanding interest in the player, Brazilian sources believe a January move has a much greater chance of success.

Having said all that, Elliot Richardson reports that Arsenal are working hard on a deal, and it has a “decent chance” of going through. Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail confirms that the Gunners are working on a deal ahead of the summer deadline.

Arsenal’s midfield injuries have seemingly forced them back into the market, with Mohamed Elneny the latest absentee with an apparent hamstring issue.

But Danilo is going to be a difficult deal to do, with Palmeiras so set on keeping him until at least January. It’s going to go down to the wire.
