Mikel Arteta is the main driving force behind the interest in Youri Tielemans, but Leicester City are in more of a rush to sell than Arsenal are to buy.

The Telegraph report that Leicester City can’t buy until they sell this summer, putting pressure on them to find takers for their players.

Youri Tielemans has long been linked with Arsenal, and The Telegraph claim he remains a target driven by Mikel Arteta. But the Gunners still haven’t made a bid, and Manchester United are only tentatively interested.

Tielemans has delayed signing a new deal and is reluctant to extend even if he doesn’t leave Leicester this summer. So there’s really nothing rushing Arsenal along.

The Athletic report that Arsenal’s admiration for Tielemans hasn’t materialised into an offer and the odds are increasing that he stays with Leicester for the final year of his contract.

James Benge previously wrote that Arsenal and Leicester City were only around £5m apart in their valuations of Tielemans.

Perhaps the Gunners are hoping they can bring the price down by £5m by waiting, or maybe they just aren’t planning to make a move this summer. They could always agree a deal with him on a free next year.

The Daily Mail report that Arsenal have shelved plans to sign Tielemans until players leave, which makes sense.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have brought in four players already, with Zinchenko set to become the fifth, yet there have been no major outgoings – other than perhaps the permanent sale of Matteo Guendouzi to Marseille for around £10m.

Until the likes of Lucas Torreira, Pablo Mari, and Bernd Leno complete their expected moves elsewhere, Arsenal probably aren’t in a position to keep adding players to the squad.
