With Lisandro Martinez looking set to sign for Manchester United, Arsenal have reportedly turned their attentions to Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykola Matvienko.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a big move for Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez, but it was always going to be a tough deal to complete due to Manchester United’s interest.

Their new coach, Erik Ten Hag is, of course, Martinez’s former manager who picked him 120 times for the Dutch club.

With a report claiming Martinez’s move to United could be concluded by as early as today (Thursday, 14 July) following lengthy talks on Wednesday which found a £46m agreement, Arsenal have apparently shifted their attention to a player wanted by Ajax as Martinez’s replacement – Mykola Matvienko.

Two years older than Martinez at 26, Matvienko is apparently available at a fraction of Martinez’s price – €15m.

A left-footed centreback, Matvienko has two years left on his current Shakhtar Donestk contract having come through their youth ranks.

He has 51 caps for Ukraine since making his debut for his country in March, 2017.
