Sky Sports report that clubs in both the Championship and the Bundesliga are interested in Folarin Balogun this summer.

The Evening Standard confirm the Championship interest, with both outlets reporting that it would be a loan at this stage.

The striker is currently on tour, with Mikel Arteta reportedly yet to decide whether he would be best off remaining with Arsenal for the season or going out on another loan.

Balogun spent the second half of last season on loan with Middlesbrough, scoring three goals and providing three assists. But he didn’t make as many starts as he would’ve wanted, making the lineup for just nine of Middlesbrough’s 21 Championship games.

As we saw with Eddie Nketiah this season, it’s hard to get a run of goals going if you aren’t in the starting lineup regularly.

Another loan would probably be the best way to ensure Balogun gets plenty of time on the pitch, particularly with both Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus ahead of him.

Balogun didn’t feature in the friendly against Everton, he only played 23 minutes against Nurnberg, and he played the u21 half against Ipswich Town. The signs aren’t particularly good that he’ll get regular chances at Arsenal.

Having said that, there’s still time. Wednesday’s match against Orlando City (or Thursday’s match if you’re in the UK) is a good opportunity for Balogun to feature for a bit longer.

If he impresses, he could yet fight his way into the rotation. If not, a loan probably makes sense.
