Fabrizio Romano reports for Caught Offside that talks over a contract extension have been ongoing between Arsenal and Bukayo Saka since February.

The bad news is that other top English clubs are monitoring the situation, and Arsenal are clearly yet to agree a new deal after five months.

On the other hand, Romano reports that Arsenal are Saka’s priority, he loves the club, and negotiations are still in progress.

Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Saka and the club are prioritising his extension like they would a summer signing. So we can stay hopeful they’ll get a deal across the line in the end.

The Daily Mail reported this week that Arsenal were set to accelerate their attempts to agree an extension with Saka, partly due to concerns that Manchester City are eyeing up the youngster as a Raheem Sterling replacement.

The Mail claim City have identified Saka as a long-term target, though it’s reportedly highly unlikely Arsenal would consider selling this summer.

Speaking after Arsenal’s win over Everton in Baltimore on Saturday night, Arteta claimed both parties are on the same page in negotiations.

“We will try, and we both have the same intention,” Arteta said. “It’s a matter of time.”

After 43 appearances, 12 goals, and seven assists for Arsenal last season, Saka picked up the Premier League’s Academy Graduate award for 2021/22, and Arsenal’s Player of the Season award.
