Barcelona are set to try and hijack Raphinha from Chelsea and Arsenal by submitting a £60m bid, but they don’t have an agreement with Leeds yet.
The Times report that Barcelona are ready to make an offer worth up to £60m for Raphinha to beat Chelsea to the signing. Chelsea themselves saw a bid of that value agreed with Leeds United to take the lead in the race ahead of Arsenal.
Fabrizio Romano claims Barcelona are yet to find an agreement, however. Barcelona’s most recent verbal proposal on Wednesday still didn’t meet Leeds’ demands.
For now, Leeds are insisting they have a deal with Chelsea, and it’s just up to Raphinha to accept the terms on offer with the Blues.
Of course, Raphinha is unlikely to do that if he thinks a Barcelona transfer is still on the table. He agreed personal terms with the La Liga club months ago, and they’re his clear preferred destination.
If Raphinha stalls and insists he only wants to join Barcelona, Leeds will eventually need to find a compromise or refuse to let the winger leave at all.
Regardless, the chances of Arsenal signing Raphinha now appear extremely remote.
If Barcelona end up meeting Chelsea’s bid, Raphinha will move to Barcelona. If they don’t, he’ll probably move to Chelsea.
The only way Arsenal would have a chance is by meeting Chelsea’s offer, which seems unlikely, and then convincing the player to pick Arsenal over Chelsea, which is also an ask without Champions League football.
