Arsenal’s Auston Trusty has ended his loan spell back with the Colorado Rapids, ahead of another expected loan move elsewhere this summer.

When Arsenal signed Colorado Rapids defender Auston Trusty in January, they immediately loaned the player back to his former club.

At the time, the Gunners wrote that Trusty would remain in Colorado until “at least the end of the Premier League season in May”, but they were no more specific than that.

The centre-back ended up staying for well over another month. The Colorado Rapids finally confirmed this week that Trusty has ended his loan spell with them, playing his final game on July 5th.

Arsenal confirmed in January that the plan is now to loan him out to a European side for 2022/23.

Speaking after his final game, Trusty admitted it was disappointing to go out on their 3-2 defeat to Austin FC.

“Obviously, it’s upsetting to go out like this, this being my final game here” Trusty said.

“It’s frustrating to go out like this in front of the home crowd, but just wanna say thank you to everybody who has helped me along the way.

“The coaches, the organisation, all the staff, especially the players, my teammates, I couldn’t get to this point without them.

“I just want to say thank you so much to everybody and you all helped me get there.”

Trusty could potentially now join up with Arsenal for the pre-season tour of the U.S., though the club may wish to give him a break so he’s ready for a full season in 2022/23.

The MLS operates on a calendar-year basis, so Trusty has continued to play matches over the last month or so while most of the Arsenal squad have been off on holiday.

Trusty made 19 appearances from February to July, though it wasn’t the easiest season for the Rapids. They sit 23rd of 28 MLS teams in the overall standings.

The 23-year-old will now aim to get going in European football, once he finds a loan club.
