Auston Trusty is reportedly closing in on a loan move to Birmingham City, with social media activity fueling the rumours.

Rumours on social media suggest Arsenal defender Auston Trusty is set for a move to Championship Birmingham City, and the player’s partner may have given the game away.

Eagle-eyed Birmingham fans spotted that Emily Berardino now follows Birmingham City on Instagram, an interesting choice of follow for a woman based in Philadelphia and Denver.

Neil Moxley of the Mirror reports that Birmingham are set to complete the loan of a Premier League defender today. Though he doesn’t have the name, that information certainly fits with Trusty.

We know that Arsenal are set to loan Trusty out within Europe this summer, as they confirmed that was their plan when they initially signed him.

The Gunners first loaned the defender back to his former club, the Colorado Rapids in the MLS, but they announced in January that he’d play on loan for a European side in 2022/23.

Trusty didn’t join up with Arsenal for their pre-season tour of the U.S., though that in itself doesn’t confirm he’s close to a move, as he may just be on a break.

The MLS operates on a calendar-year basis, so Trusty has continued to play matches over the last month or so while most of the Arsenal squad have been off on holiday.

Still, his absence from pre-season is another indicator that the Birmingham move is a possibility.

Trusty made 19 appearances from February to July. It wasn’t the easiest season for the Rapids, as they sat 23rd of 28 MLS teams in the overall standings.

The 23-year-old will now aim to get going in European football, once he completes his loan move.
