Arsenal have been exploring alternative wingers on the market after missing out on Raphinha to Barcelona, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Arsenal made a bid for Leeds United winger Raphinha earlier in the summer, but they ended up withdrawing from the race when Chelsea made a much higher offer before Barcelona hijacked the deal.
Despite missing out on their first-choice target in the position, the possibility remains that Arsenal will sign an alternative winger before the transfer deadline.
Fabrizio Romano reports as much, claiming the wingers are looking at other options in the position.
“Arsenal will be active ’til the end, honestly,” Romano told the Wondergoal Podcast.
“As you mentioned, Tielemans is a player that they’ve always been interested in but let’s see what happens with wingers because they wanted Raphinha so they’ve been exploring other alternatives in that position.
“So if something good will appear in the market, it could be a possibility.”
On the other hand, Romano highlights the situation with Dusan Vlahovic in January as evidence that Arsenal aren’t simply going to sign a player for the sake of it.
After the Gunners missed out on Vlahovic, they decided not to make a January signing, waiting for the summer to bring in Gabriel Jesus.
If Arsenal’s preferred alternative to Raphinha isn’t available immediately, they may well decide to wait once again.
