Lucas Torreira is set to join Arsenal on tour despite links to Juventus and his insistence he’s leaving the club this summer.

Reports suggest Juventus have been offered the chance to sign Lucas Torreira in recent days. That’s according to Alfredo Pedulla of Gazzetta.it, who claims Leandro Paredes remains the favourite to move to Juve as it stands.

Daniele Delli Carri, sporting director at one of Torreira’s former clubs Pescara, claims a Juventus move is a possibility for the Arsenal player.

Alessio Lento of Calciomercato.it reports that Arsenal want around €10m for the transfer after Fiorentina’s failure to activate his purchase clause.

But whilst Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur confirms that the 26-year-old wants a move to Serie A, he also reveals that Arsenal have called him back for their pre-season tour.

“Lucas to Juventus? In fact, he would like to stay & play in Italy,” Bentancur admitted (via TuttoJuve).

“But today, Arsenal has called him up for the tour they will do in America, so he seems to be part of the program.”

With Arsenal yet to bring in any defensively-minded midfielders, it doesn’t seem impossible they decide to keep Torreira around for this season.

The Gunners’ only midfield signing has been Fabio Vieira, who is clearly more about goals and assists than ball-winning and protecting the back four.

That’s clearly not the outcome Torreira wants though, as he recently insisted he’s leaving.

“Chances (of staying)? None,” Torreira said. “From the beginning, they told me that I didn’t have a place, so I don’t want to stay either because I suffered a lot, it cost me a lot to adapt and my idea is to go to Italy or Spain.”

Whether Arsenal’s stance on Torreira has changed should become clear in the coming weeks as pre-season progresses.
