Goal report that Feyenoord are keen on taking Reiss Nelson back this summer, but Arsenal’s preference is to sell the winger, given he’s in the final year of his contract.

That may not suit Feyenoord. Technical director Frank Arnesen had previously suggested that keeping Nelson wasn’t an easy proposition, given Arsenal would be unlikely to loan him again.

“In a final contract year, they don’t loan players anymore,” Arnesen said. “Keeping Nelson, that’s almost impossible for us.”

Fabrizio Romano also reported in May that Feyenoord wanted another loan and couldn’t afford a permanent move.

At the time, Romano claimed Nelson would soon hold talks with Mikel Arteta over his Arsenal future. But if those talks have indeed taken place, it seems the outcome was to put him up for sale.

Romano claimed in May that there was interest from English clubs, so perhaps they’ll make a move as the summer progresses.

Nelson’s loan to Feyenoord this season wasn’t exclusively positive, but it certainly trended in the right direction.

The 22-year-old had only made four starts in all competitions for Feyenoord by March 1st, scoring one goal and providing one assist across all his appearances to that point.

After that, he broke into the lineup. He made 14 starts, scored three goals, and assisted six, including an assist to help Feyenoord win their Europa Conference League semi-final 3-2 on aggregate.
