Last week, it was reported that Marseille sporting director Pablo Longoria was in London to try and secure a loan move for Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares.

According to reports from France, they fancied another Matteo Guendouzi situation where they would take him on loan before buying him next summer.

Tavares’ future at Arsenal may not be set in stone, with much depending on incomings, but it seems he has no desire to leave Arsenal, at least not for a loan to Marseille.

Still, should Arsenal sign a player to fill that position, we could well see Tavares shipped off somewhere before the window closes.

Di Marzio have also reported that Atalanta have set their sights on Tavares this summer, though their director suggested it wasn’t an easy transfer.

“I’ve followed Tavares since he was playing for Benfica’s youth team, he’s a strong player,” Lee Congerton said.

“But Tavares is under contract with Arsenal – and it’s really difficult to sign players from Premier League clubs.”

Tavares cost Arsenal £7m and initially made a strong start to his life as an Arsenal player before a few poor displays saw him subbed and his confidence drain.

Whether Arsenal think they can get the player back that they signed remains to be seen.
