Arsenal and Fulham appear to be reaching a compromise on a fee for Bernd Leno, according to a report.

The Evening Standard report that Arsenal are finally progressing in negotiations to sell Bernd Leno to Fulham.

Fulham had initially offered £7m with £3m in add-ons, but Arsenal wanted a £10m fee, with £5m in add-ons.

The Standard suggest an initial fee of £8m is now on the cards, though they don’t make any mention of the level of add-ons involved.

Presumably, the add-ons would total at least £3m, to make it an improvement on Fulham’s initial offer overall, but there’s no confirmation of that.

From Arsenal’s point of view, Leno is an international goalkeeper with plenty of football ahead of him, and a lot of quality to bring to his new club.

But from Fulham’s side, they’ll be seeing a player with one year on his deal, no starting spot with his current team, and a strong desire for the proposed move.

Ultimately, that’s going to have to lead to a compromise between the two clubs if the deal is going ahead. Perhaps they’re now edging closer to that outcome.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany reported last week that Arsenal were still yet to reach an agreement with Fulham.

But Plettenberg added that Leno had agreed personal terms with Fulham on a three-year deal with an option for a fourth.

German outlet Bild claimed Arsenal’s decision not to name Leno in their squad to face FC Nurnberg was because they didn’t want to risk an injury jeopardising the goalkeeper’s transfer.

It’s notable that he’s still yet to make an appearance since then, sitting out for games against Everton, Orlando City, and Chelsea.

Leno wants the Fulham move to try and get regular football ahead of the World Cup, with the newly-promoted side able to offer him a starting role.
