Aaron Hickey is expected in England this week to undergo a medical ahead of signing a five year deal with Brentford with Arsenal seemingly withdrawing interest in the player.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Bologna’s Scottish fullback, Aaron Hickey, for a few months.

A left-footed left back, few defenders are as comfortable with both feet as Hickey, who also would have no problem filling in on the right. With both Arsenal’s main full-backs showing that they are injury prone, that sort of addition makes sense.

Back in May, the first reports came of Arsenal making enquiries about signing Hickey with the Italians said to want €20m for him.

Arsenal were even said to have agreed a deal to sign him as early as mid-May, although David Ornstein said any Arsenal interest was not at the ‘deal’ stage at that point.

Two weeks ago, Arsenal were still said to be leading the race for his signature.

Just a few days later, however, it looked like Arsenal had ended any interest they had in the player and Hickey was being tipped to join Brentford.
